6 FOODSERVICE EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES JULY 2019 PUBLISHER'S PERSPECTIVE Maureen M. Slocum, Publisher Driveway Moments… Have you ever had one of those moments that stops you in your tracks and forces you to sit up and take notice? National Public Radio calls them driveway moments, when a personal story on the radio compels you to sit in your motionless car and listen to the conclusion before mov- ing on with your day. That was the case again and again at FE&S' 2019 Dealer of the Year and All Industry Awards Gala in Chicago. The evening started with Nick Cribb, president and chief operating of…cer for SAM Service and the recipient of FE&S' 2019 Top Achiever — Service Agent award. Nick shared a very moving and personal story of overcoming adversity in dramatic fashion. I won't attempt to retell it here, but I encourage you to listen to him tell the story …rsthand through his acceptance speech on From that high note, speaker after speaker continued to maintain that level of audience engagement as they told their stories, each in their own words. The speeches are brief, a couple of minutes each, but they speak volumes about the industry that we have the great joy of covering in the pages of FE&S, the successful people who have risen to the top of their respective …elds and the very nature of how we de…ne success. Spoiler alert … it always involves the people around us. So, to the people around us, including award winners Jerry Hyman and the TriMark USA team, the 2019 Dealer of the Year; Julaine Kiehn from the University of Missouri, recipient of the Hall of Fame Award; Top Achievers Amy Hegarty of Foodservice Consultants Studio, Charlie Fusari of Myers Restaurant Supply, Karen Higgins of 4 Star Reps, Angelo Mojica of Johns Hopkins Health System and Nick Cribb; Nick Pope of The Boelter Companies, recipient of the DSR of the Year Award, as well as the project team that created Jefferson Marketplace at Ohio University — named FE&S' 2019 Facility Design Project of the Year, my sincere thanks for a memorable evening. To the fantastic sponsors who make a night like that possible, thank you for your continued support and encouragement. All the best,
