10 FOODSERVICE EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES JUNE 2019 QUICK BITES CIA Recognizes 5 Hospitality Leaders with its Leadership Awards The Culinary Institute of America recognized ve hospitality leaders with its 2019 Leadership Awards. The 2019 Augie Award recipients are Laura Cunningham, Thomas Keller Restaurant Group; Will Guidara, Make It Nice; Danny Meyer, Union Square Hospitality; Drew Nieporent, Myriad Restaurant Group and Patrick O'Connell, The Inn at Little Washington. The honorees were recognized for helping to raise the status of the food and hospitality industry by providing every one of their guests with an exceptional experience. "This year's honorees have had enormous impact not only on the restaurant industry but also on every guest who has ever crossed their thresholds," said CIA President Dr. Tim Ryan. "They have deeply held philosophies of hospitality that serve as benchmarks of excellence for all of us, and their determination to provide each guest with an exceptional experience makes their restaurants destinations for travelers and locals alike." The CIA's largest fund-raising event, it raised more than $1 million that will go toward scholarships. Named for famed French chef Auguste Escofer in recognition of his unwav- ering pursuit of excellence, creativity, and professionalism, the Augie Awards were created by the CIA in 2007 to honor leaders in the food and foodservice industry who exemplify these traits. 25,000 The number of locations Domino's hopes to have worldwide. In addition to increasing market share, the chain feels reaching this milestone will cut down delivery times. Domino's reports an average delivery time of nine minutes and aims to reduce it to ve to six minutes. 250,000 The number of workers McDonald's plans to hire this summer. The chain is working with AARP and the AARP Foundation to recruit seniors for the summer jobs. 130 The number of locations Black Bear Diner operates systemwide with the opening of a location in El Cajon, Calif. The family dining concept has 64 locations in the state of California. This restaurant represents the 10th new location in 2019.
