36 Foodservice Equipment & Supplies | The NAFEM Show 2019 Planning Guide 1 Six Mega Trends It's a safe bet that every one of the 10,000 attendees heading to The NAFEM Show 2019 will arrive with at least one — but likely all — of the following mega trends on their hunt for products and solutions. Convenience Matters Three words sum up what's behind this very biggest of trends: technology, takeout and delivery. More foodservice establishments continue to put kiosk and self-order technologies in customers' hands, making it easier for them to get restaurant-quality food however they want it, wherever they want it and whenever they want it. The NPD Group reported early in 2018 that U.S. foodservice trafˆc has been stuck between a 1 percent gain and ‰at for several years, but restaurant visits paid by mobile app increased by 50 percent over the past year alone. Mobile apps and other technologies meet the needs of time-strapped consumers and redeˆne convenience by letting them place customized orders, pay and have their food delivered or ready for quick pickup. And by the way, while they're using the apps, they can rack up loyalty points, look up nutrition information and access coupons and specials. A 20 percent increase in delivery sales — including growing demand for breakfast and lunch delivery — over the past ˆve years was supported in large part by the growth of digital ordering, which now represents more than half of all delivery occasions, NPD adds.
