In a move aimed to accelerate its aggressive growth plans, Capriotti's Sandwich Shop added a team of investors, led by franchising veteran Shelly Sun. The fast-casual sandwich concept has more than 100 locations across the country and plans to open 15 new shops in 2017, with the goal of expanding the brand to 500 locations by 2025. Cornerstone Foodservice Group acquired LloydPans, a Washington- based metal fabricator and manufac- turer of commercial baking solutions for the pizza, baking and restaurant in- dustries. ShoreView Industries created Cornerstone in September of 2016 when the private equity firm acquired Spring USA. Equipex appointed Carolina Marketing Inc. as its sales and market- ing representatives in North Carolina and South Carolina. Equipex manu- factures countertop cooking equip- ment, warming displays and patented countertop ventless hood systems. Carolina Marketing has offices in Lexington, S.C.; Ft. Mill, S.C.; and Wilmington, N.C. Multiconcept operator Firebird Restaurant Group LLC acquired Village Burger Bar from its founding owners, husband and wife duo Mike and Susan Matta. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The first Village Burger Bar opened in 2005 in Dallas and today the concept has four loca- tions, all in Texas. In a $199 million deal, J. Alexander's will acquire 99 Restaurants, a regional chain with 106 locations in operation throughout New England. The Montague Company acquired Baldwin Park, California-based Turbo Coil Refrigeration Systems Inc., a manu- facturer whose product line includes evaporator coils, prep tables and chef bases. For the past three and a half years the companies had a strategic alliance. in fact Montague has already incorporated Turbo Coil patent-pro- tected technology into key equipment, custom suites and other products. Perpetual Capital Partners and CR3 Capital have acquired Soup- plantation and Sweet Tomatoes from Garden Fresh Restaurants. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Starbucks plans to close all 379 of its Teavana locations, with the majority to close by the spring of 2018. Taylor Precision USA added Kain McArthur to its network of indepen- dent manufacturers' reps. Kain McArthur will represent the manufac- turer of scales and thermometers for the foodservice industry in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Southern Illinois, also known as MAFSI region 16. Wilbur Curtis Co. pledged $250,000 to the University of Califor- nia, Davis, to support the university's expanding Coffee Center. The UC Cof- fee Center will be a multidisciplinary university research center devoted to post-harvest research of coffee. InBrief
