Ian Baines, CEO of Cheddar's, will remain president of the brand and report to Gene Lee, Darden president and CEO. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy recognized the following food- service equipment manufacturers with its 2017 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award: Hoshizaki America, ITW Food Equipment Group and Welbilt. Franke Foodservice Systems has acquired Sertek LLC, a manufacturer of core fabrication used in quick-serve res- taurant's kitchens and dining rooms. JAB Holdings has reached an agree- ment to acquire Panera Bread in a deal worth approximately $7.5 billion, includ- ing the assumption of approximately $340 million of net debt. The transaction is not subject to a financing condition and is expected to close during the third quarter of 2017. The Krystal Company debuted a new building prototype and complete frozen treat lineup in Marietta, Ga. Venture capital firm Oak Hill Capital Partners has reached an agreement to acquire Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. from Sentinel Capital Partners. Checkers also operates Rally's restau- rants. The deal is valued at approximately $525 million. Rib specialist Tony Roma's has undertaken a comprehensive update that includes changes to the company's branding, marketing, menu, service experience and restaurant design. WC & Partners, a Denver, Colo.-based foodservice consulting firm, formed a strategic alliance with Gastrotec, S.p.a., a foodservice design consulting firm based in Santiago, Chile. Gastrotec specializes in planning and design services for profes- sional foodservice and laundry opera- tions in Latin America. Bill Taunton heads up the Gastrotec office. The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The Euro- pean Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies presented a Green Good Design Award to the Merrychef eikon e2s, manufactured by Welbilt. These awards recognize companies, organizations, governments, institutions and individuals who "demonstrate an in- spired and exceptional level of progress towards a more sustainable and 'Green' way of working."
